Together with the Netherlands Space Office and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Waterwatch Cooperative organized on Thursday the 2nd of June 2016 the workshop “Space for Food Security“. This workshop was part of the conference “European Space Solutions 2016” which was held from 30th of May till the 3rd of June 2016 at the World Forum in The Hague. The workshop focused on the challenges and opportunities of feeding 9 billion people worldwide in 2050, the need for innovative solutions using (geospatial) datasets and operated by public, private partnerships.

During the workshop Dutch astronaut and doctor André Kuipers, who flew two space missions and spent a total of 204 days in the International Space Station, showed us the image of the world as he saw this from space. He showed us not only the beauty of our planet but also its vulnerability and the effects on the planet of human intervention.
