Outline policy
1. IntroductionThe foundation Waterwatch has been established on September 23rd 2011 to work on the objective to solve global problems regarding food security and efficient water use.
On December 30th 2014, the articles have been modified and from that moment on the foundations will accomplish its objective in the form of an ANBI (“Public Benefit Organisation”).
2. Objective and current projects
The mission of the Foundation is to provide all stakeholders in food production and water management through a vegetation database with geo based information on land and water productivity in order to improve global food security and reduce poverty.
In 2050, the world population will be 9 billion people. This large increase will limit the growth of developing countries. The urbanization will continue and income levels will increase. To keep feeding this urbanizing population, the food production must increase by 70% while using less water.
The Foundation therefore offers all stakeholders in food production and water management more information on the status of their soil and crops. Satellite, climate and weather data of detailed pieces of land, will be combined in a Global Vegetation Database. This global information is free accessible and obtainable on the level of 250 x 250 meters, herewith farmers and other stakeholders can map the water needs of their land property on any moment and herewith manage and predict the yield and land production better. The Foundation offers this data for free to stakeholders and hopes to contribute to solving the global problems on food production substantially.
3. Obtainment of financial resources
The Foundation obtains financial resources in an effective manner, which consist of:
Grants and donations
Endowments, testamentary dispositions and legates
Other obtainments and assets
To obtain these resources, direct contacts in the field of corporate social responsibility will be approached.
4. Property management
The obtained resources will be managed by the treasurer of the Foundation through a bank account at the Rabobank. The yearly obtained resources will be spend on the development and application of the Database directly. The indirect cotst only apply to expenses such as administration, housing, fundraising and operational costs.
5. Equity expenditure
The equity of the Foundation will be spent on the development and application of the Database and also on projects in behalf of global water management to improve food production. Also, the Foundation can provide support to other ANBI’s that work on the same topics as the Foundation.
The equity will be used entirely to realize the objectives of the Foundation.

Projected activities over 2015 – 2018
- Acquisition of founding partners and funds
- Create a global vegetation database that is the basis for a wide variety of applications that contribute to sustainable improvement of food security, water productivity and ecosystems.
- Develop and offer services to integrate data in order to support applications that are based on vegetation database to contribute to food security and water productivity. For 2016 we are developing and introduce to the market so called early warning applications for diseases of for various crops (potatoes, sugarcane, wheat, corn, cacao, coffee, tea, etc.) which will lower crop damage worldwide.
- Support projects in developing countries to implement innovative applications that contribute to sustainable improvement of water productivity, food production and as result better in come of smallholder farmer families. For 2015 and 2016 we prepare projects in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Cambodia and Vietnam
- Develop Software-development-kits (SDK) which lower the market entree barrier for many developers (mainly in developing countries) to make innovative services-and applications that contribute to sustainable increase of food production/foods security.
- Organize conferences about themes that are related to Waterwatch Foundation’s mission and activities in order to increase awareness about these themes at relevant stakeholders and to accelerate the implementation of innovative solutions that contribute to sustainable increase of water productivity and food security.
